Information & Questions

RULES
✦ Stay in character. We're going to take your word that you know your character! If you believe a character to be out of character, we would love it if you would approach the player with some constructive criticism. If your attempts have been disregarded by the player, please use the confidential mod contact post. Try to provide examples and details, as the mods may not always understand or be familiar with the canon in question. The complaint will then be reviewed by a committee of peers.

✦ Play nice. Pretty self-explanatory. Treat others as you would like to be treated. If you are having problems with another player, let the mods know.

✦ IC =/= OOC Please remember that information given OOC does not always translate to IC. Characters in-game should not suddenly have knowledge when there are no IC sources for them. Characters will generally have to figure things out via trial-and-error (that's what makes it fun, isn't it?) Wild theories are totally acceptable.

✦ No playercest. What's the point of being in a game if you're just gonna play with yourself? Your characters may have knowledge of each other, but please don't have them interacting.

✦ Stay active. This game is meant to be more relaxed, but a game can only stay alive if its players post and comment. Please remember that, while RP is meant to be fun, that it is still a social activity, so while the activity requirements are not extensive, it wouldn't be much fun if everyone only did one thread every AC just to pass.

✦ Utilize entry cuts and warnings. Since this is a survival/horror game, the rating of the game is a bit higher than normal. We welcome any sort of content, but if there is anything potentially graphic or triggering, we ask that you utilize entry cuts and place clear warning for others.

APPLICATIONS
✦ There are no applications. However, this game is invite/referral-only. Once you've joined the game, feel free to give out as many referrals/invites as you would like. To join, fill out the form on the Taken page and wait for an "acceptance." Simple as that!

✦ You are allowed up to three (3) characters per player. Character claims are on a first-come-first serve basis. You may have up to two (2) characters from the same canon as long as they have no reason to interact with each other.

✦ Canon and OCs are accepted. AU characters will not be accepted unless they are canon AUs. OCs from an existing canon are also not accepted at this time. (For example, an OC from the setting of Game of Thrones would not be accepted but one from a fantasy world that you have created would.) If in doubt, ask a mod.

✦ Characters that are dependent on another will not be accepted. We aren't going to put an age limit on what is acceptable and what is not, but do remember that this is a survival/horror game. For example, small children who rely on their parents in canon are unlikely to survive very long. Use your discretion, and when in doubt, contact the mods.

✦ A character information post is required. While applications are not required, we would like you to have a post on your journal that gives more information about your character, for those who are unfamiliar with them. (Especially if your character is an OC.) This does not have to be detailed, and can be just a post of links to other sources. Please include somewhere on this post all language(s) that your character speaks. (This will be helpful information for the nighttime.)

✦ You may canon update your character. Simply find the comment you made when you "applied" and respond to it with the new canon point.

GAMEPLAY
✦ One (1) full day in game = one (1) week in real life. Because of the way this game is set up, the timeline will be a little different. Each "day" will be Monday-Wednesday, and each "night" will be Thursday-Sunday. There is a handy-dandy calendar to help keep track.

✦ Days and Nights.
✦ Players are free to post Day posts whenever they'd like.
✦ Days will be pure survival mode. As far as foods go, think post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Anything that could be eaten would probably have already been taken by someone or expired. The lake has drinking water, there are some plants that may be consumed (though beware there are also plants that can kill you!), and rodents. If you're desperate. So start getting creative...! Or hoard food from the Nights.
Night posts will be made weekly by the mods and players are encouraged to make their own threads in those. The body of the post will describe the 'event' that will occur that particular night.
✦ Nights will function similar to dreams to the characters. It is up to the player how much of this "dream" that their character remembers. It is entirely possible to have no recollection of the previous night, or to remember everything in great detail. All we ask is that you remain consistent with your choices. (So if you've chosen for the character to forget certain aspects of the night, don't have them suddenly bring those events up in another thread.) Note: Nights are very much real, they just have a dream-like effect. Your character will not actually be sleeping through any of this (unless you decide to have them actually find a nice place to sleep, of course!) Even if they wake up with no recollection of the night before and it feels fuzzy like a dream, it does not mean they'll feel in any way well-rested!
✦ Please minimalize your opting out of Nights. Nights are a huge part of the game, so it wouldn't be very fun if you opted out of a majority of them. We understand that sometimes the event just won't click or offline life gets in the way and you are unable to tag. But we ask that you try to participate in the Nights as much as you can. After all, that's where all the action is! To opt out, simply have your character not remember any of the events of the previous night. It'll be like they blacked out and lost a few hours of their lives. (That doesn't sound very healthy, though, does it?)

✦ All interaction will be face-to-face. There will be no fancy networks, unfortunately. The city should be small enough that characters will be able to meet up by foot. There are cars, trains, subways that function and run during the night, so for fast travel, feel free to use those.

✦ NPCs. Players are welcomed to use the NPC villagers as they'd like. However, remember that actions do have consequences, so becoming unruly or picking fights with the NPCs will result in the appropriate consequences. Depending on the event, mod-controlled 'monsters' or obstacles may thread-jump at any time. If you'd prefer not to have that, simply mark the thread appropriately.

✦ Abilities & powers. Characters arrive with nothing except the clothes on their back and various small, non-harmful personal items that they happened to have been holding/carrying when they were suddenly taken into the city. (For example, if they had photos of their family in their pocket, those can come along. But a pocket knife or gun will mysteriously disappear.) They will find themselves completely powerless and without abilities.

Powers will come back during the nights, but slowly and with time. Each consecutive night they experience in the city will increase their powers by just a little (this will be entirely player-regulated, so please use your own discretion. If you feel another player has been unfairly powering up their characters, please let them know/grab a mod.) However, whatever abilities they've earned during the night time will not carry over during the day.

✦ Items & money. Everything from the previous night disappears when a new day starts. However, anything that they were holding in their hands from the night before will stay with them. Characters are only allowed one item at a time per night, and it must be in their hands in order for it to stay (not in their pocket, not stuffed in a bag, etc.) so choose carefully. Thankfully once the item has seen the light of day they won't disappear ever (unless consumed/destroyed/expired/etc.), so it is possible to end up hoarding together a pile of belongings and building yourself something super fancy if you wait long enough. (Or you could just collect food for the next day.) This is not knowledge that will be given to anyone, so it is up to the character to either figure it out or make friends with a veteran who's willing to share information.

As far as clothing goes, if you're wearing the clothing when the sun comes up, you may keep it. However, refrain from getting too greedy; if someone tries to cheat the system by putting on, say, five jackets at once, only one may be kept and the rest will magically disappear.

The basics anyone would need to survive can be found for free during Nights. (Soup kitchens, donations, shelters, etc.) To obtain anything fancier (nicer food, outfits, a nice hot shower...) money is required. It is possible to obtain a job (NPCs will remember faces enough to know that you work there every night!) and whatever money is made will be kept. It is also possible to barter (say you arrived with a nice watch, you can sell that) or steal (but beware consequences.)

✦ Death & injuries. Once a character dies, they may be brought back, however they'll lose every item they've accumulated and all the memories of their time in the city. Their powers will start at the beginning as well.

All dropped characters will die. Feel free to write out your own death by using the drop post. If you don't, a death will be chosen for you based on the events of the closest night post.

Injuries do not magically heal during the daytime. If your character has healing abilities (and has been in the city long enough to earn back a strong enough helping of it) they may use those abilities during the nighttime. There are also hospitals that function at night you may go to for medical supplies or help. Though keep in mind that these are regular hospitals, and so you may get a bandage and maybe some surgery, but Nurse Joy isn't going to restore you to full health.

Characters that were injured in their canon point right before arriving will find themselves fully healed. This is the only time magical healing will happen.

✦ Language barriers. Everyone will magically understand each other during the day. Everything will somehow be translated into the character's native language and nothing will seem suspicious. However, at night, everything reverts back and a language barrier appears. That means characters who are not from the same canon and do not speak the same language will not understand each other. How you want to play that out is up to you!

✦ Familiars, pets, magical weapons. Characters may keep one (1) familiar/summon (so for example, a Pokemon trainer would only arrive with one Pokemon.) If the pet/familiar does not require a summon/generally stays by their owners side and is no bigger than say, an average dog (like Rinoa's dog from FFVIII) then they'll just follow the character around during the day. If they do require a summon, they can only be called at night (so Yuna's aeons, Pokemon, etc.)!

Powers work the same way. Even if they are out and about during the day, they're nothing more than a regular animal. At nights they get their abilities back but have to start at level 1 and work their way up.

ACTIVITY
✦ Any ONE (1) of the following:
✦ Thread with minimum of five (5) comments made by you
✦ A post with at least five (5) comments made by you

✦ Activity Checks occur the first week of each month. Only comments made in the previous month will count. (ex: July 1st-7th will be for activity made in June. Only comments made in June will count toward the five comments minimum.)

✦ Backdated threads may be used. Threads/posts must have been updated in the current AC period to count. You cannot use the same thread/post in two difference ACs. (ex: If you used one thread for May's AC, even if you've continued it into June, you cannot use it again for June's AC.)

✦ You are responsible for keeping up with AC. We'll give you a reminder that AC is coming up three days before the end of the month. Otherwise, there will be no reminders.

✦ Hiatuses may last up to a month. If you've dropped a character or could not make AC, you must wait up to two (2) weeks before asking for the character again. (But remember that your character will have died in those 2 weeks and will be starting all over again.)
